Is Lebanon the Most UNDERRATED Food & Wine Destination in the Mediterranean?
Lebanon is remarkable! It's one of the world’s oldest wine regions, full of resilient people, ancient winegrowing heritage, and fresh cuisine that rivals any gastronomy on the planet! Besides having a robust winegrowing history, the country’s Mediterranean climate and mountainous terrain produce a host of delicious, fresh wines, from crisp indigenous white grapes like Obeidy and Merwah to rich, spicy blends of Cabernet and Syrah. Plus, the food is some of the most flavorful in the world, and the people have a zest for life. Join Vince and his brother Brandon as they explore Lebanon’s history, culture, food, and wine!

DESCRIPTION: Get ready to explore Lebanon, one of the world's most beautiful and misunderstood countries. We'll start this journey by speaking with British author and journalist Michael Karam at Le Chef restaurant over breakfast. This place was a favorite of Anthony Bourdain, and the awarma (lamb confit) with eggs and foul mudamas is not to be missed! Next, I'll head to the ancient Roman temple of Bacchus, a temple in Baalbek dedicated to the God of Wine. This temple is one of the most intact Roman temples in the world, and its scale is massive. Here, you'll learn about the history and geography of Lebanese winemaking. Next, I'll visit Château Ksara, the largest and oldest winery in Lebanon, before getting some succulent shawarma with my brother Brandon, who also came along on this trip! The grape segment will discuss the difference between old-world and ancient-world wines and Lebanese grape varieties planted, like Obeidy & Merwah, Cabernet, Chardonnay, and Syrah. We'll then visit the homey family-run winery Château St. Thomas, where winemaker Joe Touma single-handled proved that the grape variety "Obeidy" was native to Lebanon. After that, we'll head to IXSIR winery in the up-and-coming Batroun region to learn why Lebanese vines are often planted at high altitudes. The crew and I then headed for a night in Beirut, partying in its famous nightlife scene on Gemmayze Street. Our last winery visited is Chateau Musar, Lebanon's most famous and unique winery. I then gather all our producers for an epic dinner with Chef Maroun Chedid at Ritage Garden before having an emotional meeting with some of my distant family in Zahle. Get excited to see Lebanon in a way you never have before on this V is for Vino episode!

What is an ancient world wine
They are wine regions that predate the Roman influence of vine planting, many of which are in far eastern Europe, and the Middle East. We actually talk about it in our Lebanon episode that we just released! Check it out when you have a chance, I think you’d like it!
What I pulled from the video: Old world wines taste like dirt, have low alcohol, and are sour 😂
One of the best shows done by Vince. I agree with other comments, this is world class filming and story telling. Well done.
Wow interesting! Can’t wait to hear about the ancient world wines haha
Went to the FL as part of our honeymoon in 1981. Stopped at the then few wineries. Glenora Winery was our favorite then. Fast forward to 2023 and a visit to the area for a friend's daughter's wedding. We were so pleased that Glenora was still there and thriving. Of course it has grown as so many other wineries. The area is fantastic!
Hello , Since you haven’t listed Balkan countries nowhere (Ancient,Old,New)I recommend you comming in Serbia and try what it has to offer 🙂 p.s. Yugoslavia was in top 10 wine producers in the world 🙂
I love dirt
Great pairing! 👏👏👏
Great episode, one of the best for sure! In a world so devided, its great to see different wineries sharing a moment together.
Beautiful documentary done with such elegance
This is an amazing program. Thank you for such a wonderful, and informative show. The wine exploration is amazing.
Hi Vince, great video! you did mention that weekend events are offered for purepy the foundational knowledge of becomming a sommelier, any that you recommend? hopefully in the los angeles region?
This is one of the best videos I have ever seen on this platform.
these cave of wine were used by the Phoenicians , not by the Romans ,. the Romans and the Greek learned about the wine from the Phoenicians , and their sanctuaries were built by phoenician architects .. please do not discredit the Phoenicians and over credit the Romans . The Romans didn't come with an army of architect and scientist when they invaded our lands .. they came with brutal soldiers to destroy and steel
WINE was first produced by the Phoenicians ancestors of the lebanese people . the deity of wine - Bakhos - or Bacchus was the phoenician who invented it .. and now you can see many lebanese families still preserved his name as their own family name .. Bakhos or Bacchus got killed by the greek emperor who after tasting the wine got drunk , and thought he was poisoned by Bakhos so he ordered to kill him
My Lebanon ❤️🇱🇧❤️ the land of the ancients. You Rock guys!!
sparking wines are too sweet to go with food and not intend to go with food. they are more for dessert. recently they have become in fashion and so anything in fashion will be adapted. prosecco lol. in Veneto you will hear in described as the cokeacola of italy.
Amazing!!! Thank You!!!
Am I the only one who cannot stand to hear him butcher the word Lebanon?
Nope, I can’t stand him either.
I watched your video last year, and finally we’re headed to Chicago tomorrow! I’m re-watching to plan some stops.
Summer time chi is the best!
Israeli here. Wish we'll have peace soon, lebanon looks like a must visit🇮🇱🇱🇧
Never
As a Chinese wine snob I’m always fascinated by Musar’s unique delicacy. Hopefully I can visit this beautiful place one day!
I just use the Contorno Sensory glass for everything. Good bowl size, shoter stem than a Zalto, so fits in a dishwasher more easily.
Vince I love your stuff, you keep it fun and not stuffy. Do you have a wine club? You have mentioned it on some of your videos but I can’t seem to find it. All I see your members site. Mike
Hi Mike! Thank you! So we used to, hence why it’s in some of the older videos. However, we still occasionally sell wine packs from the episode through our partner retailer Back Room Wines. Vino VIPs get a discount, and sometimes the pack is only available to VIPs based on availability. The best way to stay up to date on these offerings is to sign up through for email list! 👍 (you can sign up bottom of our website).
Amazing job! Finger Lake has been my favorite annual vacation spot for years, and yet thanks to you I discovered something new about this region.
Great to hear!
Hey! Cute wine channel i watch in the background while im doing studies for Somm exams you're not supposed to have me bawling my eyes out at the end 🖤 Beautiful episode
Thanks! It was definitely and emotional one, and special for us!!
Such a beautiful video. Kudos to you, and your crew! We should put Lebanon on the map as a prime wine country, and a culinary heaven. Love you!!
Thank you so much!
@@visforvino No problem, so much love my brother!
wow, what a tear jerker. Lebanon's wines have alwasys been a personal favorite of mine. This, cements it at the top in my heart
Thank you, always good to hear from you!!
Visit Armenia please 🇦🇲 one of the world's oldest lands where wine was made and continues to be produced🌟🇦🇲
Waw so proud 🇱🇧❤️
It's funny when people learn that half of Lebanese people are "White" and Christian. My Lebanese part of the family are green eyed blonde and catholic.
My great grandfather was from Qoubayat, in the Northern Mountains.
Would love to see a series on Australian and New Zealand wines and regions.
I’m definitely working on it. Hoping for 2025!
Thanks for the new video! I’m looking forward to seeing what other content you post! Always good to learn as much as you can!
Very Nice!👌
Isn’t it amazing what wine can do 🍷
Big thanks to the Jesuits for the win Big thanks to the Turks for the arak .
An episode full of mixed emotions like I’ve just tasted the best wine ever. Thank you V
Lebanon always a beautiful and will remain beautiful because of its people
Ciao Vince, we added Pio Cesare to the menu I work at, and need to learn more about the brand, and this is the best training video to watch, so well done. I sent the link to all the staff at the restaurant, LoCoco's Cusina Rustica in Santa Rosa, Ca. Amo questo video... Mille gracie!!! Salute!!!
So glad we could help. Would love to come visit one day!!
Very well done
Wet eyes at the ending! Phenomenal work as always!
Hi Vince we love watching your videos. It has become our bedtime story. Sending love from the UK and Amsterdam 🍷🍾
Thank you!!
What an inspiring video material in terms of both Prosecco and Italy. As a bartender on the beginning of my journey let me express my gratitude and excitement about the educational and enjoyable experience that you provided us with. Can't wait to explore Italy and DOC wines on my own with the locals. Cheers sir <3 !
Thank you, I’m so glad it helped: that’s why I started the show, to help with education!! 🙌🙌
